Learn to Skydive Solo AFF Course near Perth, Bunbury & Albany

The full 10-stage Accelerated Freefall (AFF) course at The Skydive School costs $3,635. That covers five days (Wednesday to Sunday) including ground school, all 10 AFF skydives, student gear hire, APF student membership, parachute packing lessons, logbook, goggles, skydive jersey and on-site accommodation: no hidden extras. You can start smaller with the Tandem AFF (Stage 1) for $949 or the AFF Starter (first 3 stages) for $2,190.

Getting your A-Licence at The Skydive School starts from $5,610 with the Fly With Friends package: the 10-stage AFF course plus 5 coached B-Rel and 5 sport jumps: 20 jumps, 15 of them with an instructor. The $3,635 AFF course teaches you to skydive solo but doesn't include the A-Licence, which is a performance-based qualification set by the Australian Parachute Federation (APF). Some students need a few extra jumps to meet the standard.

It's performance-based, not a set number of jumps. The AFF course takes 5 days, and most of our students reach their A-Licence within 20–25 jumps, some sooner, some later. We see the best results from Fly With Friends, where 15 of your 20 jumps are with an instructor who helps and supports you.

No. A tandem jump is not required before the AFF course. AFF is designed to take complete beginners straight into solo skydiving from jump one, with two instructors jumping alongside you in freefall. Many of our students arrive with zero skydiving experience and complete the full course within a single week.

On a tandem skydive ($399–$489) you're harnessed to an instructor who does everything, and no training is needed. When you learn to skydive (AFF), you wear your own parachute from the first jump: two instructors fly beside you in freefall while you deploy, steer and land your own canopy. After the 10 stages you're cleared to jump solo.

Yes. The Tandem AFF (Stage 1) ($949, a full-day Wednesday course) teaches you the AFF Stage 1 freefall sequence on a 14,000ft tandem with a dual-rated instructor, and counts toward your AFF training. Or try the AFF Starter ($2,190): ground school plus the first three solo stages with two instructors.

Your instructors are in freefall right next to you to help. On top of that, every student skydiving rig has an automatic activation device (AAD): a backup computer that automatically deploys your parachute at a safe altitude if you don't do it yourself. You're also guided down by radio, with backup signals if the radio fails.

You must be at least 16 years old (under 18s need guardian consent). To keep safety margins on our specialised student parachutes, the maximum weight is 95 kg. If you're close to the limit, please contact our Head Instructor.

Courses start every Wednesday at 9am, year-round, with a maximum of 4 students. Yes, we run as a residential skydiving camp. Accommodation in our shared bunkhouse (separate boys' and girls' bunks, BYO pillows and blankets) is free for course students, and there's plenty of on-site space for camping and RVs, plus hot showers and a sauna.

Our inland location at Darkan gives us significantly more jumpable days than coastal dropzones, which are often affected by sea breezes. If a weather delay stops you completing your course stages, we'll work with you to schedule the remaining jumps at no additional cost. We operate Wednesday to Sunday every week.

The APF A-Licence is performance-based, not a fixed jump count. You complete all 10 stages of AFF, then pass 10 accuracy landings, a canopy handling course and a written exam, all assessed to APF standard. Most of our students get there within 20–25 jumps, and Fly With Friends (from $5,610, 20 jumps) is the best preparation.

Yes. We train you to the Australian Parachute Federation (APF) standard, and because the APF is a member of the FAI, your licence is recognised globally. You can take your A-Licence to dropzones in the USA, Europe and beyond.

At The Skydive School, Hillman Farm Airport in Darkan WA, the closest full-training solo skydiving dropzone to Perth, just over 2 hours (about 206 km) south-east via Albany Highway. It's also about 1.5 hours from Bunbury and 2.5 hours from Albany, with free on-site accommodation for course students.

Yes. The Skydive School is Western Australia's only year-round, full-training skydiving facility, and AFF courses start every Wednesday in every season. Our inland weather at Hillman Farm gives stable training conditions in winter, spring, summer and autumn.

Yes. Skydiving in WA is fully legal and regulated by the Australian Parachute Federation (APF), under Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) oversight. The Skydive School is an APF-accredited facility operating from a licensed private airfield at Hillman Farm Airport, Darkan WA. All our instructors hold current APF qualifications, and our equipment meets the APF's mandatory safety standards.
