The AFF Pathway

Thinking About Learning to Skydive Solo?

Tell us when you book your tandem and we can pair you with one of our dual-rated instructors — qualified in both tandem skydiving and AFF solo instruction.

01
Book your tandem normally

Choose your altitude, pick your date. Nothing extra to organise.

02
Mention you're interested in solo

Just let us know at booking — we'll assign a dual-rated instructor to your jump.

03
Your tandem becomes more than a jump

Your instructor will walk you through what you're experiencing in the air — the altitude checks, the freefall position, the deployment — so it feels like a first look at AFF Stage 1, not just a passenger ride.

04
Decide after, not before

No commitment. No pressure. If the bug bites you in freefall, you'll already know your instructor and have a clear path forward. We can tell you all you need to know about joining up to our limited AFF courses.

No extra cost. No obligation. Just a smarter first jump.

WA's Only Year-Round AFF School

Learn to Skydive Solo — The AFF Course in WA

The Accelerated Freefall (AFF) course takes a complete beginner from ground school to solo licensed skydiver in as little as 5 days — at Western Australia's only fully dedicated learn-to-skydive dropzone. From your very first jump, you deploy your own parachute, steer your own canopy, and land yourself. This is not a passenger experience — you are flying. The pathway runs from $949 to $3,635 — start small, or go straight for your licence.

You Deploy Your Own Chute — From Jump 1

Two APF-certified instructors jump beside you in freefall, holding your harness for stability. You pull your own parachute, steer your own canopy, and land yourself guided by radio. By jump 3, you have one instructor. By jump 9, you're solo.

Maximum 4 Students Per Course

We cap every course at 4 students. No crowded classrooms, no waiting around. You get real debrief time with your instructors after every jump and HD video of each skydive to review your technique. We invest time to teach our students the right way.

5-Day Residential Program — Year-Round

Wednesday to Sunday at Hillman Farm. On-site bunkhouse accommodation is included in the course fee. Wake up, jump, debrief, repeat. As the only full training facility open year-round in WA, you can start in any season.

Internationally Recognised Licence

Completing the AFF course is a prerequisite for an APF A-Licence — recognised by the FAI worldwide. You can jump at any dropzone in Australia or internationally with an A-licence, and we offer fast-track add-on packages to help obtain your licence.

Step 1 — Solo Taster
Tandem AFF (Solo Taster)
$949

Take the controls. A full-day Wednesday course: ground school, equipment intro, guided canopy steering and the freefall sequence of AFF Stage 1 — on a full 14,000ft jump. Counts toward your AFF licence.

Step 2 — Commit
AFF Starter — First 3 Stages
$2,190

Full day ground school + 3 jumps with two instructors. Gear, parachute and APF fees included. The best way to find out if skydiving is your thing before committing to the full course.

Every Question Answered

Skydiving in WA — Your Questions Answered

Q.How much does a tandem skydive cost at The Skydive School?

It depends which of two experiences you're after. One-off tandem jumps run $399–$489: an 8,000ft tandem (20 seconds of freefall) is $399, and the Full Height Tandem at 14,000ft is $489 — 60 full seconds of freefall and a 5–7 minute canopy glide with views across the Wheatbelt. Want to learn to skydive? That pathway runs $949–$3,635: it starts with the Tandem AFF at $949 (full-day Wednesday course with ground school and a guided freefall sequence) and runs to the complete 10-stage licence course at $3,635. Media add-ons (handicam or full package) are available separately.

Q.How far is The Skydive School from Perth, Mandurah and Rockingham?

We are 2 hours from Perth CBD, about 90 minutes from Mandurah, and around 100 minutes from Rockingham. The drive through the Wheatbelt is an easy, scenic run on good roads — most groups make a full day of it and stop in at the Darkan Hotel on the way home.

Q.Can you skydive year-round in Western Australia?

Yes — The Skydive School is the only full training facility in WA open year-round. Our inland location at Darkan avoids the coastal sea breezes that force other dropzones to close, so you can do a tandem or train toward your licence in summer or winter. But remember: if it's ever unsafe to skydive, we stay on the ground — safety comes first.

Q.Is inland skydiving safer than jumping near the coast?

Inland conditions are generally more predictable. Coastal dropzones deal with sea breezes and gusty wind changes — all of which cause jump holds and cancellations. At Darkan, our flat inland terrain means more consistent winds, clear landing zones, and far fewer weather-related delays. Fewer cancellations also means your booking is more likely to run on the day you choose.

Q.What is the minimum age for tandem skydiving in Australia?

The minimum age for tandem skydiving in Australia is 16 years old. Jumpers aged 16–17 must have written parental or guardian consent on the day. There is no upper age limit — we jump with guests well into their 70s and 80s. Medical fitness is assessed individually if you have concerns.

Q.Is there a weight limit for tandem skydiving?

The standard weight limit for tandem skydiving is 100 kg. This is an equipment and safety requirement set by the manufacturer and Australian regulations. If you are close to this limit or have questions about fit, contact us directly — we are happy to have an honest conversation before you book.

Q.Where can I learn to skydive in Western Australia?

The Skydive School is Western Australia's only fully dedicated learn-to-skydive dropzone. The pathway starts with the Tandem AFF Solo Taster at $949, then the AFF Starter (first 3 stages) at $2,190, up to the full 10-stage licence course at $3,635 — including on-site accommodation, APF student membership and packing lessons. Courses run year-round with a maximum of 4 students per course.

Q.What makes The Skydive School different from other WA dropzones?

We are a dedicated skydiving school, not a high-volume tourist operation. Groups are kept intentionally small so every tandem guest and AFF student gets real time with their instructor — before, during, and after the jump. You are not processed through a line. Our instructors know your name, answer your actual questions, and check in with you properly. That personal attention is rare in this industry.

Q.Where can I skydive south of Perth?

The Skydive School at Hillman Farm Airport, Darkan WA is the only dedicated skydiving school in the South West region. We serve Bunbury, Busselton, Collie, Harvey, Narrogin, Bridgetown, and the full region from Perth down to Margaret River. Jump altitude is 14,000ft with 60 seconds of freefall and panoramic views across the Wheatbelt and southwest.

Q.Do I need skydiving experience for a tandem jump?

No experience required. Tandem skydiving is designed for complete beginners. You are harnessed to a fully qualified APF instructor for the entire jump. Your pre-jump briefing covers everything you need to know in about 20 minutes. If you want to skydive solo after your tandem, we also run the full AFF solo skydiving course — the only dedicated solo training program in WA.
