Hillman Farm Airport, Darkan, home of Australia's first Birdman wingsuit jump

You can't book a wingsuit jump the way you book a tandem. In Australia you earn it: the APF requires Certificate D, which means 200 skydives, before your first wingsuit flight. Here's the path, and where to start.

The path

From first jump to first wingsuit flight

Every wingsuit pilot starts in the same place: learning to skydive solo.

1. Learn to skydive (AFF)

Our 10-stage AFF course runs all year round over about 5 days. $3,635 with on-site accommodation.

2. Get your A-Licence

Your first licence. It's performance-based and most of our students need 20 to 25 jumps. How the A-Licence works.

3. Certificates B and C

Keep jumping and build your skills. Certificate B, for example, needs 50 stable freefalls, formation skydiving jumps, accurate landings and approval to pack your own main parachute.

4. Certificate D

200 freefall skydives, 20 witnessed landings within 5 m of the target, and assessed as competent to spot for the aircraft load.

5. Your first wingsuit flight

Training with an APF Wingsuit Coach, following the Wingsuit Training Table. Part A is a minimum of 3 descents from at least 10,000ft. Complete the table and you earn the Wingsuit Crest.

Requirements are set by the Australian Parachute Federation and can change. Check the current APF rules or ask us.

Quick answers

Wingsuit skydiving in WA: your questions

Can I do a wingsuit jump with no experience?

Not as a first-timer. Under Australian Parachute Federation (APF) rules you need at least Certificate D before you put on a wingsuit, and Certificate D needs 200 freefall skydives. If you've never jumped, the place to start is a tandem skydive or our AFF course.

How many skydives do I need before flying a wingsuit?

200 freefall skydives, as part of Certificate D. Certificate D also needs 20 witnessed landings within 5 m of the target, and you must be assessed as competent to spot for the aircraft load.

What does a first wingsuit flight involve?

Wingsuit training follows the APF Wingsuit Training Table, delivered by a Wingsuit Coach. Part A covers your first flight and basic flying over a minimum of 3 descents, with a minimum exit height of 10,000ft. Completing the training table earns the Wingsuit Crest.

Where can I fly a wingsuit in WA?
