ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LEARNING TO SKYDIVE

Skydiver in freefall at The Skydive School—experience the thrill of skydiving with AFF training or a tandem skydive in WA!

Learn to Skydive with TSS – Your AFF Skydiving Course

Thinking about learning to skydive? It might seem a bit daunting at first, but trust us—once you start, you won’t want to stop. At The Skydive School, we’ve got your back every step of the way. Our AFF (Accelerated Freefall) course is designed to take you from complete beginner to certified solo skydiver in just 10 jumps.

Who Can Skydive Solo with Us?

Short answer: Anyone over 16 years old, up to 95kg, and physically fit.
We’d love to take everyone, but right now, our parachute range is limited to 95kg. If you’re over that, don’t stress—some other dropzones might be able to help you get started.

What is Accelerated Freefall (AFF)?

AFF is the fastest way to learn to skydive solo. No tandem skydive required—just straight into training, then jumping with two instructors by your side. If you’re on the fence about solo skydiving, we’ve got an ‘Intro to Skydiving’ package, which includes a tandem jump where you’ll go through the freefall sequence, body position, deployment, and a taste of canopy control.

Our AFF course is structured over 10 skydives, focusing on stability, height awareness, parachute deployment, navigation, and landing accuracy.

How the Course Works

Step 1: Online Pre-Course Training

Before you even get to the DZ, you’ll complete an online learning module to prep you for AFF ground school. This means that when you arrive, we can dive straight into hands-on training.

Step 2: Ground Training

At the dropzone, you’ll go through a full day of training covering:
✅ Aircraft exits
✅ Freefall body position & stability
✅ Emergency procedures & drills
✅ Parachute deployment & navigation
✅ Landing techniques

Once you’ve nailed this, you’re ready for your first skydive.

Your First Skydives – Stages 1-3

Time to gear up and take flight! You’ll jump with two instructors, focusing on:
✔️ Pre-flight gear & landing checks
✔️ Safe aircraft exits
✔️ Managing sensory overload (trust us, it’s wild at first!)
✔️ Height awareness—because height is our friend
✔️ Stability in freefall
✔️ Introduction to turns
✔️ Deployment & parachute checks
✔️ Flying your canopy and landing with radio assistance

Building Skills – Stages 4-8

Things are starting to feel more natural now. You’ll drop to one instructor and fine-tune your flying skills:
✔️ Exiting cleanly & presenting to the relative wind
✔️ Heading control, 360-degree turns & forward movement
✔️ Introduction to tracking & fall rate adjustments
✔️ Deployment & canopy navigation
✔️ Packing your parachute (yep, time to learn the “fun” part!)

Final Stages – Stages 9 & 10 (Hop and Pops)

Welcome to Hop and Pops! These jumps are all about exiting at a lower altitude, getting stable fast, and deploying your parachute immediately—also known as “clear and pull”. This step preps you for emergency exits and builds even more confidence under canopy.

Why Learn to Skydive with Us?

This course isn’t just about jumping out of a plane—it’s about mastering freefall, controlling a parachute, and landing like a pro. The feeling of achieving your first solo skydive is unreal. If you’re ready to take the leap, we’re ready to teach you.
